Job Description

Role Overview

A 3-month hybrid contract role based in Leeds, for an experienced Data Quality and Governance Lead within a financial services environment. The position is responsible for defining and implementing data quality frameworks, profiling and monitoring critical data elements, and driving enterprise data governance through Microsoft Purview. The role operates across Microsoft Fabric Bronze, Silver, and Gold data layers, acting as the key intermediary between Data Owners, Stewards, and the wider Data Directorate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and implement data quality rules, frameworks, and standards, profiling and monitoring critical data elements to drive trusted, high-quality data across the organisation.
  • Own and govern Microsoft Purview artefacts including the business glossary, data dictionary definitions, data lineage mappings, and the enterprise data catalogue.
  • Act as the intermediary between Data Owners, Stewards, and data consumers, chairing cross-functional working groups to agree and sign off definitions and governance standards.
  • Identify, prioritise, and remediate critical data quality issues and Legacy metadata gaps, coordinating process improvements to maintain effective data health.
  • Promote and embed data catalogue adoption across business units, delivering training, roll-out plans, and regular reporting on data management activities.

  • Microsoft Purview expertise - Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview across data catalogue, lineage, glossary, and classification capabilities in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Data quality management - Strong proficiency in data quality frameworks, data profiling, data cleansing, root cause analysis, and critical data element (CDE) definition and monitoring.
  • Metadata & governance management - Proven experience managing metadata, business rules, and data stewardship models, with the ability to define and maintain a Single Version of Truth across the organisation.
  • SQL & data analysis - Solid SQL skills and analytical capability to investigate data issues, perform ad-hoc analysis, and support reporting on data management activities.
  • Stakeholder engagement & enablement - Strong ability to engage across business and technical teams, build data literacy, and drive adoption of governance standards; exposure to Microsoft Fabric, MDM, or data migration programmes is a strong advantage.
