Job Description

Digital Futures is looking for Data Engineering Instructors to join our Academy team to deliver our Data Engineering pathway and support the teaching of the other pathways in the Digital Futures Academy.

Job Summary
The Digital Futures Academy delivers a world-class 12-week learning experience tailored for aspiring Digital Futures consultants. The Digital Futures Practice team is responsible for delivering a high-quality experience that develops individuals to be ready for deployment as a Digital Futures consultant.

As a Data Engineering Instructor at the Digital Futures Academy, your primary role is to deliver the Data Engineering pathway and support the cross-disciplinary learning experience of cohorts of aspiring Digital Futures consultants. Your responsibilities include liaising with the Digital Futures Academy excellence team to ensure the development and quality of Digital Futures consultants before graduation.

This role is open both to candidates who have previous teaching experience and to candidates who have industry experience as a Data Engineer and are looking to pivot into a career in teaching. If you're a data engineer looking to move into teaching please include a brief covering letter confirming this.

The majority of Digital Futures teaching is delivered remotely. However, we're seeking candidates able & willing to work from our London office (Worship Square) when not delivering training.

Responsibilities

  • Delivering the Digital Futures Data Engineering pathway to a cohort of aspiring Digital Futures consultants.
  • Report on and engage with the Digital Futures Academy team on the progress and development on individuals, raising concerns or highlighting high performers.
  • Ensure data for the cohort progress is up-to-date and shared with the wider Digital Futures Academy team.
  • Support students on performance improvement.
  • Assisting students with queries and challenges during sessions delivered by other instructors, & helping students with the use of software, tools, or techniques related to the course.
  • Working with the teaching assistant team to ensure grading of student work that requires subjective evaluation and providing actionable feedback.
  • Collaborating with the faculty in the creation of demos, learning materials, or assessments.

Requirements

  • Data Engineering Expertise - Expertise with the software, tools, and techniques of data engineering (Python is our primary language)
  • Workshop Facilitation - Experience with delivering high quality engaging and accessible workshops.
  • Personal Development Coaching Experience- Experience in coaching and developing individuals both in technical skills and professional skills.

  • Communication Skills - Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively assist students and collaborate with faculty.
  • Interpersonal Skills- Ability to work well with diverse groups of students, showing patience, empathy, and understanding.
  • Organisational Skills- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise responsibilities, and meet deadlines.
  • Team Player- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and other staff members to achieve common goals.
  • Adaptability- Willingness to adapt to changing curriculum needs, teaching methods, or tools.
  • Continuous Learner- Eagerness to stay updated with the latest educational methodologies, tools, and technologies relevant to the Digital Futures curriculum.
  • Problem-Solving- Ability to think critically and solve problems as they arise, especially in a classroom setting.
