Job Description

Data Ops Engineer

Contract Opportunity (3-Year Engagement with Path to Full-Time Employment)

Location: Madrid (Hybrid)

Company: Select Tech (on behalf of a renewable energy client)


Select Tech is partnering with a leading renewable energy company with a growing footprint in Madrid. We are currently looking for a Medior-level Data Ops Engineer with strong expertise in Microsoft Azure to join their team on a 3-year contract engagement, with a view to transition into a full-time role within the business.


Role Overview:

This role focuses on ensuring the reliability, availability and performance of cloud-based data pipelines and infrastructure. You will work closely with Data Engineering and Design teams to oversee daily operations, optimize data flow, and troubleshoot performance issues in a collaborative environment.


Key Responsibilities:


Data Operations & Monitoring

  • Ensure the stability and scalability of Azure-based data solutions.
  • Monitor Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, and SQL databases.
  • Create dashboards and set up alerts using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights.
  • Maintain data consistency, integrity, and governance across pipelines.


Incident Management & Troubleshooting

  • Respond to pipeline failures, data ingestion issues, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Perform RCA and implement permanent solutions to recurring problems.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and Cloud teams on infrastructure-level incidents.


Automation & Optimization

  • Automate operational workflows using PowerShell, Python, or Azure Functions.
  • Optimize ETL/ELT processes to reduce manual intervention and improve cost-efficiency.
  • Monitor and manage Azure cost and usage.


Security & Compliance

  • Implement robust security measures including RBAC, encryption, and authentication.
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR, ISO 27001, and other relevant standards.
  • Conduct periodic access reviews and audits.


Collaboration & Documentation

  • Partner with Data Engineers to enhance data operational workflows.
  • Develop comprehensive SOPs, troubleshooting documentation, and runbooks.
  • Share knowledge through training and mentorship of junior staff.


Required Skills & Experience:


Education & Experience

  • 3-5 years' experience in DataOps, Data Engineering, or Cloud Operations.
  • Proven hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure Data Services.


Technical Expertise

  • Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL Database, Data Lake, Azure Functions.
  • Monitoring: Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights.
  • Automation: PowerShell, Python, Bash.
  • IaC & CI/CD: Azure DevOps, Terraform, Bicep.
  • Strong understanding of data security, RBAC, and compliance frameworks.


Soft Skills

  • Analytical mindset and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective under pressure, with strong time and task management.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.


Nice-to-Have:

  • Familiarity with Azure Purview and Azure Data Governance.
  • Understanding of ITIL-based operations.
