Location: Gorinchem Full-time Hybrid €5,000 - €7,300
Trinamics is looking for an experienced and independent Data Engineer/Architect with a passion for sensor data, sustainability, and data infrastructures. For our client in the maritime sector, you'll work on a tangible, sustainable, and innovative product that directly impacts the performance of ships.
About the client
Our client is a progressive company within the maritime industry. They develop digital solutions that capture, analyze, and transform sensor data from ships into valuable insights for shipowners. Think fuel consumption reports, emissions, engine performance, and operational efficiency.
You'll work within a multidisciplinary product team focused on remote monitoring and automation. The team consists of eight specialists and follows Scrum methodology. The company is evolving toward a scalable and intelligent data structure.
The role
As a Data Engineer/Architect, you'll work with large volumes of sensor data coming from ships. You'll design and manage data platforms, pipelines, and ETL processes, turning them into scalable, efficient solutions. You're hands-on with technology, but you also understand the business value of data for end-users.
You'll switch easily between technical implementation and architecture design. You'll liaise with technical stakeholders such as the IoT team and the platform team and clearly communicate your decisions and solutions.
Your tasks
- Develop robust, scalable data pipelines (Azure Synapse, Python, PySpark)
- Build infrastructure and deployment strategies using Infrastructure as Code
- Process and model sensor data from ships
- Collaborate with Data Scientists and Product Owners to make insights and models actionable
- Advise on data structures, scalability, and architecture
- Mentor team members in data-driven thinking and working methods
- Occasionally go onboard ships to experience the final product
Technical stack
- Cloud: Microsoft Azure
- ETL & Pipelines: Azure Synapse Pipelines, Infrastructure as Code
- Languages & Tools: Python, PySpark, SQL
- Extra tools: Power BI (a plus), PowerShell (a big plus due to existing scripts)
- CI/CD & Deployment: Efficient deployment solutions (not a traditional DevOps role)
Your profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or equivalent
- 5-12 years of relevant experience in Data Engineering or Architecture
- Experience with IoT or sensor data is a big plus
- Strong expertise in Python, PySpark, Azure, and SQL
- PowerShell experience is highly advantageous (this skill is missing in the team)
- Independent, proactive, and an excellent communicator - you know how to back up your opinion
- Fluent in English (both written and spoken)
- Experience in consulting or project-based work is a plus
- Interest in sustainability, technology, and the maritime industry
Why choose this assignment via Trinamics?
- Work on tangible technology with a direct impact on sustainability
- Visit the ships you work on to experience the impact of your solutions
- Join a small, passionate, and highly-skilled team with room for your ideas and initiative
- Role with autonomy, vision, and future career growth into coaching and architecture
- Be part of a larger digital transition within an innovative industry
Employment conditions
- Employment through Trinamics with a view to a long-term collaboration
- Salary range €5,000-€7,300 per month
- At least 2 days per week on-site in Gorinchem, hybrid work possible
