Overview

Want to join a company that works on real world problems that make a difference to people's lives? We are focused on changing how we build what's around us, helping people to design and construct buildings and infrastructure more efficiently.

Do you have significant experience of large capital projects in the built environment? Are you passionate about leading data-centric solutions to solve frustrations and complex problems faced by the industry? We want to hear from you.

Laminar Projects is an award winning consultancy that implements technology to improve the delivery of complex construction projects. We also have a separate product team, Shape Construction, that develops construction management software products. We recruit kind, authentic people who learn fast and are focused on designing an organisation that prioritises the flourishing of the people in the team. This is more than a job-it's an invitation to be your best self in all aspects of life.

Laminar is recognised as one of the UK's Best Workplaces in Construction, Engineering & Property for 2024. Join a team where learning, collaboration, and growth are at the core, and solving big challenges is part of the fun.

The Role

Purpose of the role

We are looking for experienced Digital Consultants to join our team. You will leverage your industry experience to deeply understand clients' problems, advise best practices, and deliver data-driven digital solutions tailored to their needs. You will direct technical teams to deliver impactful results and communicate complex concepts to less technical audiences.

Team

The Data & Digital team helps people use data effectively to improve project or organisational performance. We use modern digital technologies including Azure, Fabric, Power BI and Python. We are structured and outcome driven, focused on building the best solutions and continuously improving what we do.

Your top 5 responsibilities

  1. Solve our clients' most complex business problems: Develop data-driven digital solutions by fully understanding business processes and challenging the status quo.
  2. Lead our teams in implementing best practice data solutions: Direct technical experts and junior team members to meet client expectations and communicate complex concepts clearly.
  3. Develop internal Laminar data solutions: Leverage digital technologies to collect organisation data and enhance operational efficiency.
  4. Productisation of client solutions: Lead teams to develop solutions that work across different clients.
  5. Following and developing our processes: Adhere to best practices and identify areas to improve by refining or introducing new processes.

Your Capabilities

As a candidate, you should have:

  • Degree in Engineering, Surveying, Project Management, or similar
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering/construction of large capital projects (> USD 100m)
  • 2+ years experience delivering data and digital solutions across an organisation or large project
  • Great communication skills to translate complex ideas for diverse audiences
  • Analytical mindset with ability to create structure from uncertainty

It would also be great if you have:

  • Chartered in a relevant body (e.g., ICE, RICS) or working towards chartership
  • ISO 19650 certification
  • PMP/APM membership and/or MBA
  • Consultancy experience
  • Product Management/Software development experience
  • Experience with BI tools (e.g., Power BI)
  • Experience with databases (e.g., SQL, Azure)

Laminar isn't the place for you if any of the following is true:

  • You want an easy, chilled-out role without much challenge
  • You like to be the smartest person in the room
  • You don't like continuously receiving honest candid feedback
  • You prefer to do your own thing rather than work with a team

We value diverse experiences and perspectives, empowering each member to contribute their unique expertise toward our collective success. If you don't think you meet all the criteria but are excited about this role, we encourage you to apply anyway!

Salary and Benefits

Standard Stuff

  • Competitive salary dependent on location and capability
  • Paid annual leave 25 days + statutory bank holidays
  • Pension with matching contribution up to 7%
  • Private health insurance
  • Discretionary bonus scheme for all team members

The Life-Changing Stuff

  • Flexibility: Getting things done matters more than time of day. You won't need to ask permission for personal commitments; just keep your team informed if it affects them.
  • Grow your whole self: Leaders act as coaches; a development-oriented environment with coaching, mentoring, wellbeing support and a focus on long-term learning.
  • Be surrounded by the best: We hire top talent; meritocracy supports fast progression and continuous development.
  • Long-term impact: We focus on solving big construction delivery challenges with lasting impact.

Application

We receive many applications, so please keep your CV to one or two pages. You will also be asked the following questions:

  • What new opportunities or experiences are you seeking in this role that your current position hasn't provided?
  • Describe a complex business problem you recently solved with a data-driven solution and its impact on the project or organisation.

We are not a giant, faceless corporation; all qualifying applications are reviewed by our key leaders. You must be located in and have the right to work in the UK. We can support the transfer of existing UK visas, but cannot sponsor new visas.

In terms of the application process, we usually start with an intro call to explain what we're about in a casual conversation so you can tell us about yourself.
