SALARY: £30,000 - £40,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
LOCATION: Salford / London / Cardiff / Newcastle / Glasgow

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Are you a data analyst who loves bringing data to life? Want the chance to make your mark? Our team provides business and data analysis expertise for BBC Technology and Media Operations and its many departments. We're looking for a Data Analyst to join our team to deliver data facts, a data narrative, and data insights. These will be used in a wide variety of projects, programmes, and products with our stakeholders across the organisation - both technical and non-technical.

Our Data Analysts are data experts, they know how to find the angle, crunch the data, and provide the value from the vast amounts of information available. We provide insights that are useful, clear, and easy to understand. Not forgetting the knowledge and expertise to ensure that our work and underlying data is of highest quality.

Virtual interview containing two parts:

  • Short scenario exercise - approximately 15 minutes preparation, followed by a discussion on the answer.
  • Technical and values-based questions - approximately 45-60 minutes.
  • Interviews will be conducted in September.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

As a Data Analyst, you will:

  • Deliver analysis for a wide range of projects, programmes, and products, using data from a variety of sources, from SQL databases through to Excel files. From databases to files stored on SharePoint or Dropbox, from both internal and supplier data sources.
  • Provide data for our wider delivery and commercial teams in a range of formats, exciting visualisations including dashboards and presentations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure the right questions are being asked and answered.
  • Use your knowledge and expertise to deliver clear and understandable data for the organisation, from high level through to detailed granularity.
  • Ensure data is accurate, complete, and consistent across data sources.
  • Maintain and update our data catalogue so that data is well documented and re-usable
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

To be successful in this role, you should have some - but not necessarily all - of the following:

  • Have a good practical understanding of one or more data scripting language, such as Python, SQL, or R.
  • Have a good practical understanding of one or more data visualisation tool, such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Have a good understanding of AI products and prompt engineering.
  • Are naturally inquisitive and enjoy problem solving.
  • Can simplify complex problems into component parts, and deal with them systematically.
  • Have experience working with personal and/or sensitive data.
  • Have good communication skills and the ability to bring data to life.
  • Can manage your own time and prioritise accordingly.

And most of all, you'll need to be interested, and excited by data!
