Customs Shift Leader

Salary: £28,500 - £31,000 per annum
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off 9:30am - 8:00pm

Are you an experienced Team Leader with a background in customs, logistics or freight? Do you enjoy leading people, driving performance and maintaining high standards?

We're looking for a Customs Shift Leader to join a growing team. You'll be responsible for leading a team of Customs Agents, managing daily workloads and ensuring customs declarations are completed accurately, compliantly and on time.

The Role

As a Customs Shift Leader, you'll oversee the day-to-day operation of your shift, ensuring work is allocated effectively, quality standards are maintained and customer expectations are exceeded. You'll coach and support your team while promoting continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, motivate and support a team of Customs Agents and Senior Agents.
  • Plan, allocate and prioritise daily workloads across the shift.
  • Monitor progress to ensure all work is completed accurately and within agreed timescales.
  • Respond to customs queries via email, portals and internal systems.
  • Maintain an awareness of duty and VAT calculations.
  • Ensure compliance with current customs legislation and company procedures.
  • Carry out quality checks and provide coaching and feedback to team members.
  • Complete shift handovers, daily briefs and maintain issue tracking logs.
  • Monitor staffing levels and escalate any concerns to the Management Team.
  • Capture team performance data and produce regular performance reports.
  • Communicate business updates and process changes effectively.
  • Support the development and progression of team members.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the department.
What We're Looking For
  • Previous Team Leader or Supervisory experience.
  • Customs, freight forwarding or logistics experience is highly advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to make confident decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office 365.
  • A proactive approach to coaching, motivating and developing others.
