Overview

As Curriculum Operations Administrator the post-holder will have administrative responsibility for a portfolio of the AMRC Training Centre's taught programmes, leading on a range of administrative processes central to the delivery of an excellent experience for students.

You will be responsible for regular review and continual improvement of the areas for which you are responsible, ensuring wider Faculty, University and funding body requirements are adhered to. You will work cohesively with other members of the Curriculum Operations team, managers, teaching staff and wider University Professional Services teams to provide an excellent service to both staff and students.

The role will require excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build effective networks and strong working relationships. You will need to work closely with colleagues across the AMRC Training Centre, both teaching and professional staff, and with central Professional Services colleagues.

Main duties and responsibilities

Under the direction of the Curriculum Operations Lead:

  • Academic Cycle & Programme Administration: Lead the end to end administrative lifecycle for a portfolio of taught programmes. This includes managing student registrations, intricate timetabling (aligned to employer needs), induction processes, and the maintenance of accurate student records for audit and funding compliance.
  • Assessment & Quality Assurance: Coordinate all examination and assessment activities, including the preparation of papers, management of the Controlled Assessment Management System, and supporting Extenuating Circumstances and Examination Boards. Ensure all activities adhere to University, awarding body, and sustainability regulations.
  • Expert Advice & Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a specialist point of contact for students, teaching staff, and employers. Provide in depth guidance on programme regulations and course materials, while building effective networks across the AMRC Training Centre and wider University Professional Services.
  • Operational Leadership & Team Support: Support the Curriculum Operations Lead by overseeing the work of junior colleagues, providing on the job training, and deputising when necessary. Ensure service continuity through effective resource delegation and cover during staff absences.
  • Process Improvement & Service Excellence: Proactively review and enhance curriculum operations. Use customer feedback and service monitoring to recommend and implement efficiencies that improve the experience for both staff and students.
  • Committee & Project Management: Provide professional administrative support to key committees (Quality, Welfare, and Staff Student Forums), including minute taking and action tracking. Contribute to or lead departmental projects to support strategic objectives.
  • Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.
Person Specification
  • To be educated to A Level (or equivalent experience). Essential
  • Proven significant administrative experience with excellent IT skills including the full Microsoft Office suite of applications and Google products, requiring a high degree of planning and decision making, ideally in a higher or further education environment or similar large complex organisation, with evidence of a good track record of working to tight deadlines and managing priorities. Essential
  • Experience of providing high levels of customer service in a complex busy environment, with experience of responding efficiently and effectively to phone, in person and email enquiries. Essential
  • An adaptable and proactive approach to work, with a desire to learn and develop within the role and adapt existing skills to new circumstances. Essential
  • Experience of assessment and examination procedures. Essential
  • Ability to develop creative approaches to problem solving, with the ability to analyse and solve problems with an appreciation of longer term implications Essential
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, in order to provide accurate and comprehensive information to staff and students. Essential
  • Ability to assess and organise resources, and plan and progress work activities. Essential
  • Ability to work as part of a team, across teams and departmental boundaries and experience of developing and maintaining a network of contacts throughout own work area. Essential
  • Experience of supervising junior colleagues. Desirable
  • Knowledge of Ofsted and ESFA requirements. Desirable
  • Experience of using University of Sheffield system, for example Blackboard, CIES, CIS, CMIS, Roombookings, OneFile, Maytas. Desirable
