Our Crown Court Clerks ensure Crown Court hearings run smoothly. They confidently communicate in court and produce accurate, timely court documents. The training programme provides a structured, flexible approach to build the required skills.
About the roleYou are expected to have high emotional resilience, be an active listener, communicate confidently, and manage court proceedings, including verdicts, arraignments, court orders and recording outcomes. You will work with the clerking team to ensure smooth running of daily courts, intervene as required, and maximise sitting time. Familiarity with process, IT adaptability and time management are essential.
Qualifications and experience- Ability to speak publicly in court and liaise confidently with Judges, defence, prosecution, media, and the public.
- Excellent communication, organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Capability to complete documents accurately to deadlines.
- IT proficiency and ability to learn new technologies.
Based at Lincoln Crown Court, The Castle, Lincoln, LN1 3GA, with travel to other Midlands Court locations (Mansfield, Derby, Leicester, Nottingham, Northampton, Chesterfield) as required.
Working arrangementsStandard full time hours: 37 hours per week. The role is office based; hybrid working is possible with a minimum of 60 % office presence. Part time, flexible and job sharing arrangements may be considered, subject to business needs.
Visa and immigrationThis role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas. Applicants must hold a Skilled Worker visa before 22 July 2025, or ascertain eligibility under transitional provisions. All successful candidates must prove and maintain the legal right to work in the UK.
