Your Company:NET Recruit are partnering with an international engineering and consultancy business to recruit a Credit Controller in the Portsmouth area. With continued growth and a strong focus on maintaining positive client relationships, the business is now looking for a proactive and commercially minded Credit Controller to join its finance team and take responsibility for managing customer accounts and ensuring outstanding payments are collected efficiently and professionally.Your Role and ResponsibilitiesWhile in this position your duties may include but will not be limited to:
  • Managing a portfolio of customer accounts and maintaining accurate and up-to-date account information.
  • Monitoring debtor ledgers on a daily basis, identifying overdue balances and prioritising collection activity accordingly.
  • Contacting customers by telephone, email, and other appropriate methods to secure outstanding payments.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with customers while taking a professional and firm approach to debt collection.
  • Investigating and resolving invoice queries, payment discrepancies, and account disputes in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Working closely with sales, operations, and finance colleagues to resolve issues and support timely payment.
  • Allocating incoming payments accurately and ensuring customer accounts are reconciled correctly.
  • Issuing statements and supporting the wider finance team with accurate account information and reporting.
  • Monitoring customer payment behaviour and escalating potential credit risks where appropriate.
  • Supporting the maintenance of credit limits and payment terms in line with company procedures.
  • Assisting with the preparation of regular reports relating to outstanding debt, aged debt, and collection performance.
  • Ensuring all credit control activity is carried out accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Supporting wider finance activities and process improvements where required.
What You Will Need to Apply:To be considered for this opportunity, you will ideally have previous experience working within a Credit Controller, Credit Administrator, Accounts Receivable, or similar finance position, preferably within a high-volume commercial environment. You will have a good understanding of the credit control process and be confident dealing with customers regarding overdue payments, account queries, and outstanding invoices. Experience managing a ledger and working towards collection targets would be advantageous. Strong communication and negotiation skills are essential, as you will regularly liaise with customers and internal stakeholders at different levels. You will need to be confident having sometimes challenging conversations while maintaining a professional and customer-focused approach. You should be highly organised, commercially aware, and comfortable managing your own workload and prioritising accounts according to business requirements. Strong attention to detail and accuracy will also be important when maintaining financial records and reconciling customer accounts. Experience using Excel and accounting or ERP systems would be beneficial, alongside a willingness to learn new systems and processes.
