About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Course Manager in Welding to join our team at our York campus. This is a part-time position, working 18.5 hours per week.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable individual who will be responsible for the delivery of Level 1 and Level 2 Welding qualifications and the course management of a designated student group within the department. Relevant sector experience and expertise in Welding and Fabrication, Manufacturing Engineering, Metalwork, or a related discipline, together with an understanding of further education, would be highly advantageous.

The successful candidate will deliver a range of theory and practical units across our Level 1 and Level 2 Adult Skills provision, supporting learners to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for progression within the welding, fabrication and manufacturing industries. The role also offers access to high-quality teacher training and ongoing professional development opportunities.

Candidates should be educated to Level 3 or above in a relevant subject area and a teaching qualification would be desirable. This role offers an excellent opportunity for the right individual to play a central role in our Welding provision, working within a fantastic campus environment and contributing to our Vision 2030 strategy, helping to inspire the next generation of welding professionals and support the future skills needs of the sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate Level 1 and Level 2 Welding programmes.
• Deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment in practical and theoretical welding subjects.
• Teach a range of welding processes, including MIG, TIG, MMA and fabrication techniques, as appropriate.
• Support learner recruitment, retention, achievement and progression.
• Monitor attendance, progress and learner wellbeing.
• Manage course administration, assessment planning and quality assurance processes.
• Develop learning resources, schemes of work and practical workshop activities.
• Ensure safe working practices and compliance with health and safety requirements within the welding workshop.
• Liaise with employers and industry partners to support learner opportunities and curriculum relevance.
• Support curriculum development and quality improvement activities.
• Relevant qualification in Welding, Fabrication, Manufacturing Engineering or a related subject.
• Industry experience in welding and fabrication.
• Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards one.
• Experience of teaching, training, coaching or mentoring learners/apprentices.
• Strong understanding of current industry practices, welding standards and health and safety requirements.
• Excellent communication, organisation and digital skills.
• Assessor and/or IQA qualifications.
• Experience of teaching Level 1 and Level 2 Welding qualifications.
• Experience of curriculum leadership or course management responsibilities.
• Experience of working with adult learners.
• Knowledge of local and regional manufacturing and engineering sectors.

Start Date: The College operates 2 starter/induction days per month to welcome and onboard new members. These are usually the first Monday and third Wednesday of each month (unless there is a bank holiday).
