Job Description

Title and Summary

The appointed person will be a vital part of the Europe regional legal team. The team oversees the general legal and regulatory needs of the Europe region, which covers 56 countries.

The appointed person will be the primary legal business partner and will be responsible for all legal aspects of a cluster of countries in Europe. The function reports to a Senior Managing Region Counsel. The appointed person will be expected to make a significant contribution to the successful management and growth of the business. The position is based in London.

Job responsibilities:

  1. Assist with all legal support related to the UK and Ireland, including both the personal delivery of work and the coordination of input from other legal department members as required.
  2. Generally responsible for all legal support related to an additional cluster of countries.
  3. In charge of some functional responsibilities for the Europe Region.
  4. Legal work includes drafting, review, and negotiation of commercial contracts with clients and suppliers, corporate housekeeping, and general advice and assistance (mainly on commercial contract and marketing matters).
  5. Assist the sales teams in managing and mitigating legal and commercial risks.
  6. Manage external legal counsels in the assigned countries.
  7. Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in the assigned countries.
  8. Support the business in its commercial and strategic role.
  9. Work together with and assist other departments as required, both on a local/regional and a global level, such as Finance, the Franchise Department, Risk Management, and their assigned functional in-house counsels.
  10. Conduct local training/monitoring of global Law Department policies such as contract policy training.
  11. Contribute to various law department initiatives.
  12. Work together with other members of the Law Department both in Europe and worldwide to deliver outstanding service to the business in an integrated and streamlined manner, aligning with both local/regional and global strategies.

Selection Criteria

Qualifications:

  • Qualified as an English or EU Solicitor.
  • Additional qualifications, including international ones, are an asset.

Essential Knowledge/Experience/Attributes:

  • Relevant post-qualification experience in general commercial legal matters in a reputable law firm and/or as an in-house lawyer, preferably in financial services, banking, or technology sectors.
  • Experience supporting US organizations and knowledge in corporate law and IT law are assets.
  • Fluent in English (both spoken and written); additional European languages are a plus.
  • Ability to operate effectively within a diverse, multicultural organization.
  • A positive "can-do" attitude, stress resistance, and willingness to go the extra mile.
  • Strong team player, organizationally savvy, and a good communicator capable of cross-functional and cross-regional collaboration.
  • Thorough, meticulous, with attention to detail, yet able to prioritize and focus on important tasks.
  • Good commercial judgment and a creative approach to problem-solving.
