Job Description

We are seeking a Wells Cost Engineer for an initial 12 month contract. In this role, you will provide focused cost management support across drilling and intervention activities, ensuring robust financial oversight at every stage. Acting as a key part of the Wells Team, you will help deliver operations within budget by maintaining accurate reporting, forecasting, and cost control throughout.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Wells, you will be responsible for managing, monitoring, and controlling well costs across drilling and intervention activities. Acting as a key interface between finance and operations, you will ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and forecasting of costs, while maintaining robust cost control procedures throughout.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining well cost accounting and control procedures.
  • Preparing AFE estimates in collaboration with Engineers.
  • Providing daily cost commitment and expenditure forecasts during drilling operations.
  • Leading weekly and monthly cost reviews with senior stakeholders.
  • Monitoring vendor invoices, contracts, and cost allocations for accuracy and compliance.
  • Managing stock, logistics, and shared cost allocations.
  • Maintaining a savings register and challenging vendor costs where appropriate.
  • Supporting upstream finance functions, including JV audits and reconciliations.
  • Delivering internal training and guidance on cost control procedures.

About You

We are seeking a detail-oriented professional with strong technical accounting skills and proven experience in cost control within the upstream oil and gas sector. You will combine analytical ability with excellent communication skills, capable of constructively challenging stakeholders and ensuring robust cost discipline.

Key Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting or relevant discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong background in cost control, ideally within an E&P environment.
  • Knowledge of the upstream value chain and drilling/well operations.
  • Proficiency in SAP and financial reporting systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
