Cardiff Council delivers over 700 different services to residents of Cardiff, visitors, and businesses across the city. As a local government organisation, our customers depend on us to deliver our essential services, every day. Whether employed in a customer facing, technical, trade or support role, our employees help us to make a difference to our communities.

This role will involve working online from home and/or a mix of home and office (hybrid) working.

About the job

In this Corporate Trainee role, you'll gain first-hand experience in how Cardiff Council handles resident concerns. You will support the Complaints and Correspondence Manager in managing both Corporate and Ombudsman-led complaints, ensuring responses are fair, timely, and of the highest quality.

This is a great opportunity to start your career in a professional team where you'll gain hands on experience in administration, communication, and problem solving. This is not a front line complaints role, it is a strategic support position helping the Council stay accountable, responsive, and continuously improving.

You will learn to track and monitor cases, assist with providing guidance to colleagues in our services to support improvements. With mentoring and support, you'll develop skills in administration, communication, problem solving, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement - experience that can open doors to many career paths within Cardiff Council and beyond.

The successful candidate should have good organisational skills, the ability to use IT to manage tasks, an interest in learning how to extract meaningful data and identify trends, and able to build productive relationships with colleagues across our service teams to help us achieve the best outcomes for residents.

To support your development, you will receive on the job training, supervision, and a dedicated mentor who will guide your career progression and help you build a wide range of transferable skills.

Many of our teams work online with a mix of home and office based working. Equipment and training will be provided, though you will need to arrange your own internet connectivity (support may be available).

Hours are 9:00am - 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, subject to change. Further details are available in the Job Description and Person Specification.
