Job Description
About Energy Systems

We help customers navigate the complex transition to a decarbonized and more sustainable energy future. We do this by assuring that energy systems work safely and effectively, using solutions that are increasingly digital. We also help industries and governments to navigate the many complex, interrelated transitions taking place globally and regionally, in the energy industry.

Here at DNV, what we do matters. Whether it's helping the Energy Industry transition to a more decarbonised and sustainable future or helping safeguard life, property and the environment, every day, what you do will make a difference. This is our shared purpose and one our people are proud to be part of.

DNV's Markets & Risk department combines multidisciplinary experts from oil & gas, power and renewable energy backgrounds to support businesses through their Energy Transition journey. Within this, our Sustainability & Asset Resilience section consists of around 30 specialists working in areas such as data analytics, functional safety, management of rotating machinery and emissions monitoring.

Our Opportunity:

This role offers a fantastic opportunity to join our diverse and expanding team of specialists. Our dedicated Rotating Machinery Solutions (RMS) team delivers a range of products and services designed to support customers in the operation and protection of their rotating assets.

Our RMS services include:

  • Rotating machinery fault diagnostics
  • Performance testing
  • Emissions monitoring and compliance reporting
  • Vibration monitoring, protection, and condition monitoring solutions

Our team specialises in assets and equipment such as gas turbines, compressors, pumps, and steam turbines, primarily for oil and gas and power generation applications.

Based in our Stockport office, you'll be involved in meaningful work from day one. You'll contribute to a variety of client projects while gaining hands-on experience in machinery condition monitoring, emissions reporting, and reliability tracking. Along the way, you'll deepen your understanding of our customers and the challenges they face as they strive to make the industry safer and more sustainable.

As a Control and Instrumentation Systems Engineer, you will support our in-house developed online monitoring systems. These systems perform remote condition monitoring by gathering real-time data from machinery control systems and data historians. This data enables our engineers to troubleshoot issues, generate reliability reports, and monitor equipment emissions.

We manage several long-term contracts that involve reporting emissions in line with government permits and tracking equipment performance KPIs. Your role may also involve short site visits across the UK to conduct testing, installation, and commissioning of condition and emission monitoring systems.

You'll be stretched but always supported. With over 140 colleagues in our UK&I Markets & Risk team alone, you'll be part of a collaborative environment where your growth is encouraged, your hard work is recognised, and your wellbeing is valued.

From day one, you'll be paired with a buddy to help you settle in and a mentor to support your technical development. You'll also benefit from ongoing coaching and guidance as you build your skills in technical delivery, project management, and customer engagement-while working towards professional chartership.

While we support flexible and hybrid working arrangements, to accelerate your development, we encourage you to be in our Stockport office around three days a week. This allows for close collaboration with your team and hands-on learning from experienced colleagues.

We value all our people and the contributions they make to our business, so it's important that our rewards make us all feel valued here. That's why we offer a flexible reward and benefits package, allowing you to choose the things that matter most to you, including;

  • Non-contractual profit share scheme
  • Excellent career development opportunities, supported by structured training to enhance your knowledge and develop new skills
  • Lifestyle benefits: 26 days annual leave + bank holidays, opportunity for up to 10 days unpaid leave, sabbatical leave, flexible working options
  • Wellbeing benefits: (inc Private Medical, Dental Insurance, Health Assessments, Gym allowance). Company contribution towards eye tests and glasses (for computer/laptop users), and Flu Vaccinations. Also, our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) provides free and confidential support for issues including work, family, relationships, money and health and we provide free fruit in our offices
  • Financial Benefits: including a Pension Scheme with employer pension contributions up to 9%, Life Assurance and Income Protection
  • Travel benefits: Season Ticket Loan, Cycle to Work Scheme, Electric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice Scheme (for personal use)
  • Re-imbursement of relevant Professional Membership Fees (up to £570)
  • Access to employee retail discount site for high street and on-line shopping

DNV is an Equal Opportunity Employer and gives consideration for employment to qualified applicants without regard to gender, religion, race, national or ethnic origin, cultural background, social group, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, age or political opinion. Diversity is fundamental to our culture and we invite you to be part of this diversity.

We see this as a fantastic development opportunity for someone eager to take the next step in their career-someone who shares our passion for problem-solving and our curiosity to make a meaningful impact in the industry.

While we keep our requirements to a minimum, we believe there are a few essential qualities that will help you thrive with us:

  • Demonstrable experience and understanding of industrial control systems, including data communications and integration (e.g., systems from current manufacturers and traditional Modbus protocols), ideally gained within a similar environment e.g. production processes, oil and gas, or power generation
  • Experience with databases, such as OSI PI and SQL, including configuration and use
  • Software development skills, particularly in tools and languages like Power BI, Python, and Ignition SCADA
  • Familiarity with project lifecycle documentation (e.g., FDS, DDS, FAT, SAT) is desirable but not essential
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn new skills, take initiative, and step outside your comfort zone when needed
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to build professional relationships and communicate effectively-both in writing and verbally
  • Self-motivation and time management, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and meet deadlines to achieve project goals.
  • A degree in an Engineering or Science discipline (e.g., Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science)
  • A valid UK driving license is essential due to client and site visits.
