Mechanical Contracts Manager

Location: Greater Manchester

Salary: £60,000 - £70,000 plus Car Allowance, Pension, Healthcare & Bonus Scheme

Working Pattern: Full-time, Office/Site Based (No Hybrid Working) The Opportunity

An established construction and refurbishment business is seeking an experienced Head of Mechanical to lead and grow its in-house mechanical division.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious mechanical professional who is ready to step into a senior leadership position, taking responsibility for project delivery, team management, commercial oversight, and the future growth of the department.

With a strong pipeline of work already secured, the successful candidate will play a key role in developing the mechanical offering, supporting project teams, and creating opportunities to secure standalone mechanical projects.

The Role

As Head of Mechanical, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and developing the mechanical team.
  • Managing mechanical projects from pre-construction through to completion.
  • Overseeing delivery on site, ensuring programmes, quality, and safety standards are achieved.
  • Supporting project teams with all mechanical aspects of projects.
  • Managing and coordinating specialist mechanical subcontractors.
  • Working closely with the pre-construction team on tenders, design-and-build opportunities, and project planning.
  • Contributing to estimating, commercial management, and project delivery.
  • Producing and managing project programmes and master programmes.
  • Identifying opportunities to grow the mechanical division and expand the company's mechanical offering.
  • Supporting business development initiatives and helping secure future mechanical works.
Project Scope

Projects typically involve refurbishment and upgrade works across public sector and education environments, including:

  • HVAC and air conditioning installations.
  • Heating systems and radiators.
  • Toilet and washroom refurbishments.
  • General mechanical building services upgrades.
About You

We are looking for someone who can wear multiple hats and bring a blend of technical, commercial, and leadership skills.

You will ideally have:

  • A strong background in mechanical building services.
  • Experience managing mechanical projects and site teams.
  • Commercial awareness, including estimating and cost control.
  • Experience working with subcontractors and project delivery teams.
  • The ability to lead, mentor, and grow a department.
  • Strong planning and programme management skills.
  • A proactive approach and the ambition to help shape the future of a growing mechanical division.
