Job Description

Our client is a well-established and busy local engineering business with a strong client base across the UK and Ireland. With a reputation for quality and reliability, they are continuing to grow and are now seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to join their South Down-based team. This is primarily an office based position.

Role Overview

The successful Contracts Manager will be responsible for overseeing multiple projects to ensure they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standard of quality and safety. You will be the key link between the company and its clients, with a strong focus on contract delivery, resource coordination, and stakeholder communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and grow a strong client base through repeat business and industry contacts
  • Conduct thorough tender reviews and assist the Estimator with take-offs as required
  • Provide input on production rates, plant costs, subcontractor feedback, and site productivity implications
  • Assess programme implications during the tender stage
  • Attend and contribute to pre-start meetings and agree on project programmes and phasing
  • Oversee all project documentation including Health & Safety submissions, risk assessments, method statements, lifting plans, and training records
  • Procure subcontractors and plant hire
  • Conduct valuations for subcontract payments and manage variation costs and daywork records
  • Act as the main point of contact with the client's site team throughout the contract duration
  • Direct site foremen and ensure efficient use of site resources
  • Maintain clear and accurate site records (e.g., foremen's logs, daywork sheets)
  • Monitor and control costs throughout project lifecycles
  • Attend final handover meetings and agree on final account valuations (subject to approval)

Criteria:

  • Previous experience in a similar Contracts Manager / Site Manager role
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work to tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and general IT systems
  • A proactive and professional approach with strong attention to detail
  • Flexibility to travel to sites as needed (although it is a primarily office-based role)
