Consumer Product Lawyer

This Assistant Vice President role is within the Secured Regulated Lending Legal team, part of the wider BUK Consumer Products legal team. The team provides legal advice and risk management, supporting business areas with regulated mortgage contracts and retail buy-to-let mortgages, including BUK Mortgages and Private Bank. You will join a friendly, passionate team of regulatory experts.

To succeed in this role, you should:

• Be a UK qualified or Commonwealth qualified lawyer and a consumer product regulatory expert with proven advisory experience in product and proposition innovation and simplification;
• Have experience advising on mortgages or retail lending, which is preferred. Use this experience to identify emerging legal and regulatory risks and provide clear, justified advice;
• Possess strong communication skills and relationship-building abilities.

You may be assessed on skills such as risk management, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology skills, and technical expertise.

This role can be based in Glasgow or Manchester.

Purpose of the role

Ensure consumer banking activities comply with laws and regulations, and help manage legal and regulatory risks.

Accountabilities

• Develop and implement legal strategies for risk management and compliance;
• Provide proactive legal advice to the consumer banking division on regulatory compliance, change management, consumer protection, and risk;
• Create and review legal documents to ensure compliance with laws and policies;
• Stay updated on legal and regulatory changes affecting consumer banking;
• Identify and communicate legal risks, ensuring laws are reflected in policies and controls.
