MAIN PURPOSE:
To lead and develop specialist psychiatry services within Brainkind Hospitals, operating within a recovery model that emphasizes learning new strategies and coping mechanisms for those with acquired brain injuries and related conditions. The service adopts a holistic, bio-psycho-social approach, integrating medical and social models of care.
The Consultant Psychiatrist will lead during the stabilization phase, managing polypharmacy, unstable presentations, and fragmented social support networks, making them more manageable and beneficial for patients. They will provide strategic leadership within the multidisciplinary team, applying the neurobehavioral model to patients with acquired brain injuries.
To serve as a professional role model and support the clinical leadership team in achieving Brainkind's objectives.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead neuropsychiatry services and act as Responsible Clinician for patients detained under the Mental Health Act.
- Hold clinical responsibility for patients in the hospital and conduct regular psychiatric reviews, collaborating with other disciplines for comprehensive care.
- Provide expert psychiatric advice regarding service provision and clinical delivery.
- Lead the clinical team, addressing performance issues and liaising with management to meet national standards.
- Maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders and develop collaborations within and outside the hospital.
- Ensure practices reflect equality and diversity principles.
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based interventions as part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring safe and effective psychiatric treatment within a neurobehavioral framework.
- Oversee weekly clinical team meetings and case management, including supervising assessments and multidisciplinary inputs.
- Coordinate with external professionals, organizations, families, and patients.
- Manage pre-admission assessments for out-of-area patients when required.
- Participate in a non-residential on-call rota, including York Hospital.
- Provide clinical consultancy and guidance to other psychiatrists and staff.
- Hold Section 12 approval under the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007).
ABOUT YOU:
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Registered with the GMC with a license to practice.
- In good standing with no warnings or conditions on practice.
- Higher degree in medical education, research, or management preferred.
- MRCPsych qualification.
- Approved Clinician status and S12 approval.
- Excellent clinical skills with a bio-psycho-social perspective and broad medical knowledge.
- Decision-making based on evidence and collaborative input.
- Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA.
- Experience in clinical audit and quality improvement.
- Commitment to shared leadership and collaborative working.
