Job overviewJoin an established inpatient team and a supportive Consultant group in Trafford, South Manchester. Flexible working patterns are supported, and the role can be adapted for part-time work or research interests. The Consultant Psychiatrist will care for 15 patients on Medlock ward, a 21-bed all-female acute assessment ward, supported by a ward Associate Specialty doctor. The role involves developing the service in line with trauma-informed care and innovation in patient-centered, high-quality care. The position is based at the Moorside Unit, Trafford General Hospital.
Main duties of the job- Provide medical leadership for MDT meetings.
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and provide treatment for inpatients.
- Support ward staff in managing psychiatric emergencies.
- Lead patient reviews, multidisciplinary ward reviews, CPA reviews, and multi-professional meetings.
- Be the responsible clinician under the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) and perform duties accordingly.
- Maintain Responsible Clinician status.
- Carry out risk assessments and participate in risk management processes.
- Provide medical leadership to the inpatient team.
- Maintain effective communication and collaborate with other services.
- Liaise with families and carers.
- Complete reports for Mental Health Tribunals, with support.
- Attend tribunals or supervise team members in tribunal work.

Person specification Qualifications- Medical Degree
- MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
- GMC registration
- Approved Clinician status
