Consultant Psychiatrist, Liaison - East Surrey (attracts £25K RRP)

Closing date: 10 March 2026.

We're looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Liaison Psychiatry Team at East Surrey Hospital, providing expert mental health care for adults aged 16 and over who are receiving treatment on the hospital's wards or in A&E.

This is a key clinical leadership role within our friendly, well established team. You'll support people with urgent and complex mental health needs, including those with physical health challenges or in crisis. You'll provide psychiatric assessments, offer advice to hospital colleagues, and help develop care plans that put people's needs first.

You'll work closely with a supportive, multidisciplinary team made up of doctors, nurses, psychologists, and other health professionals. Together, we aim to provide high quality care that supports recovery and avoids unnecessary hospital stays.

The post is based at Redwood Annex at East Surrey Hospital. You'll be part of a Trust with a strong teaching culture, access to research and academic opportunities, and a commitment to wellbeing, development, and flexible working.

If you want to make a meaningful difference to people's lives and support the integration of mental and physical health care, we'd love to hear from you!

Main duties of the job

The Consultant will be expected to support the existing staff in assessing, diagnosing and managing referrals for working age adults presenting with mental health problems in East Surrey Hospital, and to provide medical expertise and support to hospital staff involved in looking after patients with functional and organic mental health problems presenting in the acute hospital.

In addition, the Consultant will supervise the clinical caseload of the team members and the work of any trainee doctors who may be attached to the service. The role will also support the existing liaison team in deciding the most appropriate intervention for patients referred to the service, including facilitating discharge planning and timely communication with primary care, CMHRSs or inpatient services.
