Currently we have an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist with a specialism in Forensic Psychiatry to join a newly developed Low Secure Mental Health Service in Ireland. This purpose built service provides specialist care for adults with complex psychiatric conditions and forensic risks, focusing on recovery, rehabilitation and risk reduction.

The role offers the opportunity to work within a consultant led multidisciplinary team, providing clinical leadership and specialist psychiatric input for patients within a modern forensic setting. The service aims to deliver high quality, evidence based care while supporting individuals to safely transition to less secure environments.

The hospital has 50 beds with current occupancy of 17, offering a manageable caseload shared with the Clinical Director and supported by a junior doctor.

Salary: 230,000EURO - 260,000EURO (£200 £230K)
Position: Consultant Psychiatrist - Forensic Psychiatry
Hours: Full time, onsite
Setting: Low Secure Forensic Mental Health Service
Location: Gormonston, Co. Meath, Ireland

Your key responsibilities
  • Provide clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary forensic mental health team
  • Take clinical responsibility for patients within the Low Secure Unit
  • Lead ward rounds, case discussions and clinical meetings
  • Provide psychiatric assessment, formulation and treatment planning
  • Supervise junior doctors and other clinical staff
  • Contribute to governance, audit and quality improvement initiatives
  • Participate in the on call rota (1 in 7 service)
Qualifications
  • Specialist registration with the Medical Council of Ireland / Eligibility to register (GMC Specialist Reg)
  • Experience working in forensic psychiatry or secure mental health services
  • Excellent clinical skills using a biopsychosocial approach
  • Strong leadership within multidisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
