This is a new post for an Old Age consultant psychiatrist to provide medical input into our multi-award-winning Memory & Later Life services in North Cumbria. The post holder will work along with a multidisciplinary team covering the old people's population in North-Cumbria. This includes innovative services around Early Memory, Diagnosis and Treatment (written up as an area of outstanding practice by the Peter Sowerby Foundation) and including exciting developments in primary care; Our multi-disciplinary community teams supporting both people with functional and/or organic mental health needs; CHESS (Care Home Education & Support Service)- winner of awards including HSJ, Patient Safety and Nursing Times awards and supporting our Liaison services including Reach Out Delirium Service, winner of Royal College of Psychiatrist's Team of the year in 2021.
The post holder will provide senior clinical expertise and will be joining a close working team with outstanding support across the organization in terms of development, academic research, support to learning with a full medical education suite in Cumbria and links to the new Pears Cumbria School of Medicine.

Main duties of the jobThis is a full-time substantive Consultant post providing senior clinical and leadership input within the Old Age Community Treatment Team. Post holder would be expected to work alongside other experienced consultants, Psychologists, nurses, Occupational Therapists and other members of the MDT covering the working the population in North Cumbria. The post-holder is expected to:
Participate in the engagement, assessment, diagnosis and formulation of patients referred to the CTT.
Be committed to delivering excellence in clinical care,
Work effectively with the multidisciplinary community team and in-patient teams.
Promote the safety and well-being of the patients we serve.
To respect the rights and the dignity of patients.
To consider the individual and cultural needs of patients and
To work with families and carers in the best interest of the patient (in line with the Trust Carers' Charter).

Person Specification Qualifications/Eligibility- MBBS (or equivalent)
- Registration with GMC (or eligible to become registered) with a licence to practice.
- Included on GMC Specialist Register (Old Age Psychiatry) or eligible for inclusion or included within six months of CCT/CESR.
- Approved under Section12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983 OR able to achieve within three months of appointment.
- Approved Clinician Status OR able to achieve within three months of appointment.
- Possess a CCT/CESR in Psychiatry
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field.
- Has undergone training in educational supervision.
- Has undergone training in appraisal.
- Up to date knowledge in the relevant field of Psychiatry.
- Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation.
- An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies.
- Experience of multidisciplinary team working
- Wide clinical experience in old age psychiatry in different clinical settings.
- Experience of Clinical Audit.
- Experience in multi-agency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies.
- Experience in service management or development.
- High level of clinical skills.
- Proven competence in diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders in the older age population
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a time efficient manner.
- Excellent teaching skills.
- Established ability as a clinical teacher.
- Established record of clinical leadership.
- Training in specific and relevant treatment skills e.g. a brief form of psychological therapy.
