This role offers a unique opportunity to pioneer a newresearch clinic, where you will have the freedom to shape its direction. Youwill develop and lead both commercial and non-commercial research projects,aligned with your expertise and interests in clinical interventions for mooddisorders. This is a chance to develop your research potential and contributeto the advancement of mental health care on a national scale.

You will collaborate with the University of Exeter Medical School,as well as other national MentalHealth Mission sites.This partnership will enable you to drive innovation and excellence in mentalhealth research. As part of this role, you will also contribute to researchleadership within Devon Partnership NHS Trust, helping to shape the future ofmental health care.

The position is based in a modernised, historiclisted building, with easy access to university and acute hospital facilities.Additionally, a brand-new,£2Mpurpose-built Mental Health Clinical Research Facility is set to open in 2026, providingstate-of-the-art resources to support your work.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a dynamic and forward-thinkingConsultant Psychiatrist with a strong interest in mood disorders and clinicalresearch. The ideal candidate will be a leader who thrives on collaboration,innovation, and making a real-world impact.

This post is available as 8 programmed activitysessions in the first year, with additional clinical sessions available in ourLiaison or General Adult Psychiatry teams.

Person Specification Experience
  • Prior experience working in a Liaison, Community, or Adult Mental Health Team.
  • Experience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings, especially the community.
  • Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance.
  • Evidence of development of special interest in mood disorders Psychiatry.
  • Proven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care.
Qualifications
  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
  • To hold Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up post.
  • Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview
  • Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
  • CCT in General Adult Psychiatry
  • Other professional qualification

  • Current Good Clinical Practice Training
  • Track record in mood disorders research
Management
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and managers.
  • Awareness of NHS management and funding arrangements.
  • Management training / experience.
  • Experience of involvement in service development.
Teaching and Supervision
  • Experience of teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.
  • Evidence of additional teaching skills.
  • Experience as a lecturer or supervisor.
  • Experience in Clinical Supervision.
