Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides high quality, accessible and responsive community and specialist services within Birmingham and the West Midlands. We deliver over 100 clinical services, out in people's homes and in over 300 hospitals, health centres and clinics. We provide services for adults, children, people with learning disabilities, those with rehabilitation needs and also dental services.

The post holder will work with other Consultant Psychiatrist and integrated multidisciplinary teams to meet the specialist healthcare needs of the population of approximately 1.1 million.

Job responsibilities

• Senior psychiatric input and clinical leadership for the locality Multidisciplinary Team, ensuring safe and effective care acceptable to patients and carers.
• Supervision of psychiatric medical staff within the Learning Disability Service, specifically the Specialist Doctor in the West Locality.
• Undertake teaching and educational initiatives to develop skills of the local multidisciplinary team and the wider Learning Disability Service.
• Interface with neurology and other health services to facilitate access to the most appropriate care for people with intellectual disabilities.
• Senior interface with other community mental health services to ensure optimum psychiatric services for service users.
• Liaise with children services to optimise transition of children into adult services.
• Maintain and develop professional competencies using the Royal College of Psychiatrists monitored Personal Development Plan.
• Support and participate in Clinical Governance and Audit.
• Comply with all Trust policies, including Equal Opportunities policies, and promote equality of access to healthcare at all times.
• Participate in the consultant out of hours on call rota and reciprocal cover arrangements for annual and study leave.
• Utilise electronic patient records to maintain clinical records, coding, outcomes and activity.

Person Specification

• Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice.
• Recognised basic medical degree.
• MRCPsych or equivalent.
• Eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Register or CCT in appropriate specialty (or within 3 months at time of interview) or equivalent.
• Approved Clinician Status and approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act.
• Experience in the UK of working at consultant level in specialist services.
• Training in Health Services Management.
• Skills and sensitivity in being able to negotiate with patients.
• Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement and experience.
