NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job reference: 311-M218-25-M. Site: Irwell Unit, Fairfield Hospital, Bury. Salary: £113,565 - £150,569 per annum, pro rata. Closing 16/06/:59.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide high quality mental health care for adults with severe and enduring mental health problems within the community.
  • Work closely with other teams and consultants to ensure coherent, high quality care for adults with severe and enduring mental health problems within the Bury area.
  • Collaborate with other consultants to develop the service, and attend local and divisional service development meetings.
  • Operate on a low frequency on call rota (1 in 30) with full second tier on call and one day off after your on call.
Working for our organisation

The post holder will be based at the Irwell Unit, Fairfield General Hospital. The team operates a new ways of working outpatient-inpatient model and is staffed by six full time consultants in adult psychiatry. Each community consultant is allocated a junior doctor and, with support from advanced practitioners and speciality doctors, receives sessional input.

Qualifications and experience
  • MBChB or equivalent.
  • Must be on the GMC Specialist Register or eligible to be on the GMC Specialist Register, or be within six months of the anticipated award of a Certificate of Completion of Training in General Adult Psychiatry.
  • Higher psychiatric training or its equivalent.
  • Section 12 (2) approval under the Mental Health Act 1983, or be eligible for approval; approved clinician status (or eligible for same).
  • Evidence of teaching and training abilities.
  • Possession of MRCPsych or equivalent qualification. Other postgraduate degrees such as MSc, MD, MRCP etc are acceptable.
  • Experience of detention of patients under the MHA (1983) and writing reports for Mental Health Review Tribunals.
  • Previous role as educational supervisor of a basic trainee and a specialist registrar.
