BSMHFT are seeking to appoint a part time (5 PA) Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry within the Integrated Community Service area to provide comprehensive psychiatric care to the Solihull Early Intervention Team.
Early Intervention teams provide intensive support to people suffering from a first episode of psychosis using a flexible and creative approach to engagement. Treatments provided are evidence based.
The post holder will require a CCT or equivalent in General Adult Psychiatry and entry onto the Specialist Register or be within six months of achieving this.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will provide clinical leadership to the Solihull Early Intervention Team in delivering responsive, effective and inclusive mental health community services to the designated catchment area. They will assess, treat and provide expert assessments informed by evidence for referred individuals with first episode psychosis using a multidisciplinary approach. Service users requiring intensive care may be managed in collaboration with the Home Treatment Service.
Tailored assessments and interventions around coping strategies, managing risk, relapse prevention, substance misuse, psychological interventions, medication management and promotion of engagement with treatment plans will also be required.

Person Specification- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
- Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act (1983)
- MRCPsych or equivalent
- Obtained inclusion on the Specialist Register; or within six months of the award of a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in General Adult Psychiatry; or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register
- Commitment to personal programme of Continuing Professional Development
- Substantial experience of assessing and treating patients with first episode psychosis in acute & community psychiatry settings
- Experience of providing psychological and/or social interventions
- Experience of teaching and training at an undergraduate/postgraduate level
- Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement
- Experience in working with diverse communities
- Commitment to clinical audit within multi-disciplinary team
- Skills in working with individuals who are difficult to engage
- Ability to work creatively within multi-disciplinary team
- High quality assessment skills which incorporate a comprehensive biopsycho social understanding
- IT skills including email and internet
- Excellent leadership and team working capability
- Willingness to be involved in management of service
- Evidence of participation in CPD
- Ability to appraise own performance
- Ability to participate in Consultant on call rota
- Ability to travel
- Additional qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or another relevant field
- Broad clinical training including both inpatient and community service
- Experience serving a multi cultural, multi ethnic population
- Experience of stakeholder engagement in service delivery
- Experience of contributing to or completion of a service improvement project
- Experience in risk management
- Completed clinically relevant audit projects

£109,725 to £145,478 a year, per annum, pro rata
