Consultant Paediatric Haematologist

Applications are welcomed from enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join the established, friendly team of Paediatric Haematologists in our purpose built haemato oncology/SCT unit at Waterfall House, Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital (BWC).

One 10 PA post is available. The post holder will provide subspecialty cover for all aspects of Stem Cell Transplant, Gene Therapy for patients with transfusion dependent thalassaemia and sickle cell disease, and subspecialty care for patients with haemoglobinopathies.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of a dedicated medical team comprising 8 consultants (including this post), 10 haematology specialist registrars/clinical fellows and 3 ST2/3s. There are also 6 advanced nurse practitioners in the department. As one of the UK's largest paediatric haematology departments, we see a broad case mix of malignant and non malignant disease and oversee active clinical programmes in haematology, stem cell transplantation, haemoglobinopathy, haemostasis/thrombosis and haematological oncology.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training
  • MBChB or equivalent
  • Full and specialist registration with the GMC, or eligibility for registration within six months of interview
  • UK trained applicants must hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award by interview date; non UK trained applicants must provide evidence of equivalence
  • Relevant clinical experience in a paediatric haematology and SCT service
  • Post graduate or equivalent FRCPath
  • MD, PhD or other higher degree
Teaching and Audit
