Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff across various clinical and non-clinical roles. We provide acute hospital, primary, community, and mental health services to over 1.15 million people, expanding to 2.2 million with regional and national services.

The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday, with a 1:10 on-call commitment.

The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) has an Orthopaedic Department with 38 Consultants specializing in Hip, Knee, Upper Limb, Foot and Ankle, Pelvis, Limb Reconstruction, Brachial Plexus, and Spine. The Consultant will provide inpatient services at QEUH, with outpatient services at West Glasgow ACH. Day surgery facilities are available at Gartnavel General Hospital and the New Victoria Hospital.

Consultants work in teams of three to provide general trauma coverage. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in this trauma rota. QEUH is designated as a Level 2 Trauma Centre, and the candidate will be involved in developing a Managed Clinical Network in Orthopaedic Trauma.

The post requires providing a full range of inpatient, day case, and outpatient elective Arthroplasty services. In addition to clinical duties, the candidate will undertake administrative responsibilities typical of a consultant role.

Applicants must have full GMC registration, a license to practice, and be eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register. UK-trained applicants should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR), or be within six months of confirmed entry from the interview date. Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training.

Applicants are expected to have completed at least one year of recognized trauma fellowship.
