This is a substantive, full time appointment for a Consultant in Ophthalmology to support delivery of services within our friendly modern and well equipped Eye Centre. Our service is expanding, and an enthusiastic and committed individual is sought to work with our existing clinical team at an exciting point in service development. The Department has links with the Tertiary Trust at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and delivers the Northern part of the Derbyshire Diabetic Retinal Screening (DRS) programme.
We are seeking someone with good general ophthalmic skills and consideration can be given to candidates with varied sub specialty interests so long as these align with departmental operational requirements. We would be particularly interested to hear from individuals who are on the Speciality Register and have an interest in medical education, as the Department will be taking on higher speciality trainees in the forthcoming year.

Person Specification Qualifications- Full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise and entry on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview.
- Completion of a fellowship or other qualification in an ophthalmic sub specialty or special interest.
- Current experience of Consultant level on call in an acute general hospital Ophthalmology Department sufficient to safely function on the Consultant on call rota.
- Able to work independently at a senior level, taking responsibility for clinical care of patients.
- Clinical training and experience in Ophthalmology broadly equivalent to that required to gain UK CCST in Ophthalmology.
- Clinical supervision experience/skills.
- Management experience or attendance at courses for SpRs/Consultant level practitioners.
- Ability to lead a clinical team with proven clinical leadership experience.
- Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist services, including experience of organising and managing out patient priorities and waiting lists.
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems.
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion for both emergency and elective patient care.
