Consultant Neurophysiologist in Adult EMG

Main duties of the job

Your duties will include:

  • Run a clinic as per timetable, typically organised as one day a week, with cross cover for leave with other EMG neurophysiologists.
  • Be available during normal weekday office hours for consultations with neurologists, psychiatrists or neurosurgeons relating to inpatients in the hospital and to facilitate inpatient consultations on request.
  • Report urgent EMGs and EEGs within hours of the recording and provide written reports on the electronic health care record.
Person Specification Knowledge and Qualifications
  • MRCP, FRCPCH or equivalent
  • CCT in Clinical Neurophysiology or Neurology or equivalent
  • Eligible for Full UK GMC Registration or equivalent on GMC Specialist register in relevant Specialty within 6 months of expected date of CCT.
  • NB: Non-UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register and Specialist register in relevant Specialty by the date of the appointment.
  • PhD or equivalent high-profile publications as first, lead or senior author
  • Understanding of current changes in the management and organisational structures of the NHS
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance framework of NHS
Clinical Experience
  • Wide experience in clinical neurophysiology related to NCS, EMG, SFEMG, EEG
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team and understanding of the different roles.
  • Experience of research, teaching and clinical governance activities of the department.
  • Knowledge and experience in EMG-guided therapeutic Botox injection.
Skills and Abilities
  • Experience in managing clinic workflow of reporting NCS/EMG studies
  • Management of associated comorbidities
Communication
  • Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of specialist service.
  • Ability to organise and manage specialist service including outpatient referrals.
  • Interpersonal skills: ability to see patients as people, ability to empathise and work co-operatively with others.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, nurses, GP's and other agencies.
Personal and People Development
  • Knowledge of principles of clinical governance and staff appraisal
  • A demonstrable interest in research as evidenced by research grants and publication
  • Experience and interest in teaching and supervising doctors in training
Responsibilities towards promoting Equality Diversity and Inclusion
  • Demonstrable understanding of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
  • Knowledge of the NHS obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duties
