Job OverviewWe are delighted to offer an enhanced clinical post for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team as a less than full time (8PA) Consultant in Paediatric Neurodisability. The post supports the development of our clinical service within the vibrant Paediatric Neurology & Neurodisability department comprising a NHS Consultant, a Clinical Academic, several Paediatric Neurologists, and allied health professionals.
Applicants must be registered medical practitioners, hold MRCPCH or equivalent, and be eligible to join the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee.
In addition to clinical duties, the role includes commitment to teaching, education, research, and audit.

Main Duties of the JobThe post-holder will be based at Great North Children's Hospital (GNCH) and assume the duties of a Tertiary Paediatric Neurodisability Consultant, including:
- Assessment, diagnosis, and management of children referred from across the Northeast and Cumbria.
 - Recommendations and treatment/ intervention planning.
 - Outreach work with clinicians and families.
 - Shared responsibility for Neurodevelopmental, Vision and Motor clinics and tertiary neurodisability in patients.
 - Participation in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and broader clinical governance.
 - Active role in student and post graduate education, supervision, audit, quality improvement, and administrative support.
 - No on call duties.
 
- Managerial: Contribute to clinical governance, audit, risk management, and service improvement initiatives. Assist with complaints investigation and provide timely reports. Support the running of paediatric services within the Trust.
 - Administrative: Undertake patient related administrative duties and department operations in cooperation with heads of department. Member of the Medical Staff Committee. Participate in financial management of the paediatric departmental budget.
 - Research: Engage in research within the NIHR portfolio, collaborate on current studies, and develop personal research fields.
 - Teaching: Provide focused paediatric neurodisability post graduate teaching, higher specialist training, undergraduate teaching for University of Newcastle upon Tyne students during Child Health attachments, and training for other health professionals. Contribute to clinical supervision of postgraduate trainees and nurse practitioner education.
 
- Primary medical qualification.
 - Full GMC registration.
 - Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register within 6 months of the AAC date.
 - MRCPCH or equivalent.
 - Training in Paediatric Neurodisability and Neurology.
 - Higher degree.
 - Leadership and training experience.
 - CCT in Paediatric Neurodisability.
 
- Substantial commitment to managing children with complex disability.
 - Broad experience in a recognised national training centre.
 - Expert clinical opinion within the speciality.
 - Independent responsibility for tertiary centre patient care.
 - Experience in multiple paediatric neurodisability/neurology centres.
 - Specialist interests e.g. dysphagia, vision, motor disorders, botulinum toxin injections.
 
- Ability to run a service and participate in management processes.
 - Leadership within paediatric neurodisability.
 - Critical appraisal of clinical guidelines and sharing of professional responsibilities.
 - Communication skills, teamwork, and understanding of clinical governance.
 - Proven management and administrative experience.
 - Evidence of implementing change and new technologies.
 
- Supervision of junior medical staff.
 - Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience.
 - Teaching of clinical/technical/practical skills.
 - Attendance at teaching courses.
 - Postgraduate qualification in medical education.
 
- Involvement in research methodology and publication.
 - Critical review of literature.
 - Publications in neurology-related fields.
 
- Participation in audit and implementation of practice changes.
 - Revisiting audits for improvement measurement.
 
- Alignment with the Trust's values.
 - Flexible service delivery and development commitment.
 - Continuous professional development.
 - Willingness to work a flexible pattern, including evenings and weekends.

Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 a year (pro rata).
