Job summary

A full-time Consultant Medical Oncologist specialising in Colorectal, Gynaecology & CUP cancers is required for The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Other tumour sites would also be considered.

This is a replacement appointment offering 10 Programmed Activities and an on-call supplement. Applications are welcome from those interested in full-time, part-time, or job-sharing roles.

The Department of Oncology comprises nine Consultant Oncologists (eight clinical, one medical vacancy) providing care to the populations of Shropshire and Mid-Wales. Contribution to an out-of-hours on-call rota is a core aspect of this role.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide comprehensive oncology services alongside consultant colleagues, contributing expertise in the management and development of site-specific cancer services.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support established site-specific teams.
  • Participate in out-of-hours and acute oncology services.
  • Liaise with surgeons, physicians, and other specialties within the Trust.
  • Engage in teaching, examinations, accreditation, postgraduate, and continuing education locally and nationally.
  • Undertake clinical audits, contribute to medical education, participate in annual appraisals, and review job planning annually.
  • Engage in research; the Trust has an active clinical trials department encouraging participation.
  • Develop advanced clinical skills, especially in managing acutely ill patients.
  • Demonstrate excellent team-working skills and a professional attitude in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Achieve clinical and quality targets set nationally and locally with teams and commissioners.
  • Follow patients through their clinical pathways.
