Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics (Foot and Ankle Surgery)

This post is offered on a full-time basis (10 PA), although applications for less than full-time will be considered.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of dynamic Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons providing a wide range of elective orthopaedic and trauma services to a population of approximately 400,000 in the Wakefield and Kirklees area of Yorkshire. The successful candidate will join 23 other Consultants, 7 Specialty Doctors, and 14 Resident Doctors.

Duties will primarily be based at our Trauma Unit (Pinderfields General Hospital, Wakefield) and Elective Orthopaedic Surgical Hub (Pontefract General Infirmary). All staff are involved in delivering care across all sites.

The trust ensures equitable working conditions for all consultants, including on-call frequency, theatre lists, and SPA sessions.

Main duties of the job
  1. Work as part of the Orthopaedic team to provide comprehensive services, including adult and paediatric trauma.
  2. Maintain clinical responsibility for patients under your care.
  3. Provide evidence-based care in a multidisciplinary setting.
  4. Contribute to educational development at undergraduate, postgraduate, and multi-professional levels; higher qualifications are desirable.
  5. Promote equality and diversity actively and encourage colleagues to do the same.
  6. Participate in continuing medical education, including clinical training for junior staff and students.
  7. Contribute to a 1:16 on-call commitment providing Urgent and Emergency Care, demonstrating active trauma management.
  8. Deliver a comprehensive Foot & Ankle Surgical service, including elective day cases, inpatient surgery, trauma, outpatient assessment, investigation, and treatment. Fellowship-level subspecialty training in Foot & Ankle surgery is essential.
