The Restorative Dental Department at St George's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a full time (10 PAs) Consultant in Restorative Dentistry to join our friendly, progressive and collaborative multidisciplinary dental team.
This is a 1 WTE post and is subject to the Terms and Conditions of service governing the appointment of Hospital Medical and Dental Staff in England and Wales, or as subsequently varied by agreement. The priority of the role is to support and continue to develop the Restorative Dental service at St George's Hospital.
Applicants must be fully registered with the GDC, on the GDC Specialist Register in Restorative Dentistry, or must be accredited or be within 6 months of such accreditation at interview stage and have completed a SAC approved training programme.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will be expected to provide assessments and treatment for Hospital-priority patients, ranging from some medically compromised patients requiring simple restorative care, to others will require complex restorative care. There will be access to modern equipment (operating microscopes, rotary endodontic instruments, articulators, sandblasters etc).
Dedicated nursing, administrative and secretarial support will be available. There are also specific new patient clinics for the dental assessment and treatment planning prior to stem cell transplants, IV bisphosphonates from other oncology teams within the hospital as well as head and neck cancer patients, with opportunity to provide treatment.
The Department runs a weekly Journal Club including critical appraisal of articles, case discussion and case presentations with ample opportunity to also be involved in audit, clinical research, presentations, and scientific publication. In addition, there will be the opportunity to partake in postgraduate teaching including hands on courses for local practitioners. There is a varied case mix and trainees, which offers teaching and training experience for more senior staff. The department is small and offers a 'district general' type experience with close working relationships between maxillofacial, orthodontics, paediatrics and restorative dentistry.

Person Specification Qualifications- Full GDC Registration
- Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship Exit Exam in Restorative Dentistry (ISFE), or equivalent; or within 6 months of expected date of achieving ISFE.
- Successful completion of an SAC-approved training program
- High level skills and experience in specialist care for patients, with a wide range of skills in Restorative techniques
- Experience in the multidisciplinary management of patients
- Experience in clinical leadership and management of Restorative services
- Experience of audit and service evaluations
- Publications in peer reviewed journals
- Research experience
- oAbility to manage and lead specialist unit and working parties as appropriate
- Experience of postgraduate and undergraduate teaching
- Able to contribute to change management
- Ability to critically appraise scientific literature.
- Experience of audit management and conducting clinical audit
- oAbility to use the evidence based and clinical audit to support decision making
- Able to work in a multi-disciplinary team
- Able to work in partnership to deliver a patient centred service
- Commitment to continuing professional development
