The Department of Respiratory Medicine is seeking a full-time (10 PA) Consultant to join our dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team.
This post is funded by GSTT and offers an excellent opportunity to join a first-class team working to deliver innovative pathways of care for the local respiratory population in an active and progressive central London teaching hospital environment, which is part of a wider Academic Health Sciences Centre.
Main duties of the jobThe postholder will join the core team of consultants providing general respiratory clinics, general internal medicine and respiratory medicine in-patient care and flexible diagnostic bronchoscopy.
The postholder will also join the Pulmonary Hypertension service offering in-patient reviews and specialist outpatient clinics for patients with thromboembolic disease. The postholder will join MDTs at the GSTT site and cross-site working with RBH colleagues. There will be future potential to develop increased cross-site working with the RBH Pulmonary Hypertension service. The current Pulmonary Hypertension team includes Dr Bhashkar Mukherjee (consultant physician at GSTT and RBH) and Dr Karen Breen (consultant haematologist at GSTT).
The postholder will also provide specialist Sickle Lung disease clinics, working closely with haematology colleagues (Dr Rachel Kesse-Adu) and respiratory colleagues (Dr Patrick Murphy).

The Directorate of Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care and Sleep based at Guy's and St Thomas' (forming part of the GSTT Heart Lung and Critical Care Clinical Group) is committed to delivering excellent patient care whilst meeting the Government targets for A&E waiting times, cancer and 18 weeks.
The directorate provides a comprehensive service for inpatient and outpatient settings from a body of 20 consultants (as below). Respiratory consultants also contribute to the care of general medical and high-dependency patients.

Person Specification Professional Qualifications- Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practise
- On GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT in Respiratory medicine and General Internal Medicine
- PhD, MD
- Comprehensive clinical experience in respiratory and GIM
- Comprehensive experience in pulmonary hypertension
- Competent in diagnostic flexible bronchoscopy
- Understanding of principles of the audit
- Evidence of training in management
- Evidence of completion of QI and audit projects
- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff
- Evidence of research output in peer reviewed journals
- Experience of recruitment into clinical trials
- Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate
- Evidence of experience in leading a multidisciplinary team
