A Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine is required to join the existing team of Consultants at the Royal Oldham Hospital of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA). This appointment will be made in accordance with the 2003 Consultant Contract Terms and Conditions.

A formal job plan will be reviewed between the appointee and the Clinical Lead, three months after the commencement date of the appointee. The exact timetable will be flexible, arranged in discussion with the appointee ensuring that it meets the requirements of the new Consultant contract and service needs of the Division. This will be approved by the Medical Director. The Job Plan will then be reviewed at least annually. The Job Plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out a Consultant's duties, responsibilities and objectives for the coming year.

The Emergency Department supports flexible working with an electronic self rostering system for Consultants, which supports a positive work life balance.

Full time and Part time applicants will be considered.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of paediatric patients in his or her charge and for the proper functioning of the service, and will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of the clinical department.

The post holder will be required to work in partnership with colleagues of all disciplines, external links to the Trust and service users, to ensure the creation of a quality service.

The post holder will supervise the work of junior colleagues and provide advice & support as necessary.

Person Specification Professional Registration and Qualifications
  • Professional Clinical Registration
  • Primary Medical Qualification (eg MBChB)
  • A valid Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council
  • FRCEM
  • GMC Specialist Register or within 6months CCT
  • APLS certificate
  • ATLS/ETC certificate
  • ALS certificate
  • Management or leadership qualification
  • Evidence of Accredited Clinical & Educational Supervision of Medical Learners
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Sound knowledge of clinical governance
