Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

Location: Dental Health Unit and Regional Cleft Unit, Royal Manchester Children's Hospital

Contract: Substantive, Full-Time and part-time appointments considered (12 PAs available)

Join one of the UK's leading paediatric dental teams at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. We're seeking Consultants in Paediatric Dentistry to deliver specialist care across world-class institutions, serving a diverse population across the North West and North Wales.

Main duties of the job

You'll manage complex dental cases, contribute to multidisciplinary cleft clinics, and support education and research in a purpose-built Dental Health Unit with modern surgeries, sedation facilities, and Daycase and in-patient GA.

Person Specification Management and Leadership
  • Experience in the day-to-day clinical management of a Paediatric Dentistry service
  • Clinical leadership experience in paediatric dentistry
  • Qualification in Medical Leadership
Quality Improvement
  • Effective participation in clinical audit/service evaluations & quality improvement
  • Lead role in the delivery of QI initiatives
Teaching / Training
  • Experience of postgraduate and undergraduate teaching and training, at an appropriate level
  • Experience in supervising DCTs & StRs
  • Teaching qualification
Clinical Experience
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary and multiprofessional management of complex paediatric dental patients
  • Experience of delivering tertiary care in a Children's Hospital environment
  • Experience in Community Dental Services setting
  • Competence in intravenous sedation as an operator-sedationist
Qualifications & Training
  • BDS or equivalent
  • Membership in Paediatric Dentistry or equivalent
  • Possession of a Certificate of Accreditation or eligibility for a CCST in Paediatric Dentistry
  • Possession of the Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination in Paediatric Dentistry or equivalent upon taking up post
  • Other Postgraduate qualification in Paediatric Dentistry or equivalent (e.g. MSc, Professional Doctorate)
  • Successful completion of a SAC approved 2-year minimum training programme in a FTTA in Paediatric Dentistry, or within 6 months of such, or equivalent run-through training
Research
  • Ability to critically appraise scientific literature
  • Research qualification (e.g. MRes, PhD)
  • Research relevant to Paediatric Dentistry
  • Participation in clinical research; publications in peer-reviewed journals
Registration
  • Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC)
  • Registered on GDC Specialist list in Paediatric Dentistry, UK
