Consultant in Neurocritical Care and Perioperative Care

Grade: NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
Contract: Permanent: Full time substantive
Hours: Full time - 10 sessions per week (1:9 on call cover)
Location: John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford
Salary: £113,565 - £150,569 per annum (pro rata)

The post holder will primarily work in the West Wing of the John Radcliffe Hospital, with a condition to work at any of the Trust's Oxford sites. Key responsibilities include:
- Consultant cover on a 1:9 rota for the 17 bed neuro critical care unit
- Developing a perioperative consultant service for the Neurosciences inpatient ward
- Establishing an echocardiography service within the existing Pre Operative Assessment service
- Supervising and training resident doctors and junior staff
- Participating in audit, research, publications and presentations related to neuro critical care
- Contributing to regional audit systems such as TARN and ICNARC
- Engaging in teaching of medical, nursing, postgraduate and multidisciplinary team members
- Full GMC registration with licence to practice
- CCT in Anaesthetics or ICM (or equivalent for non UK applicants; OR within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview)
- FRCA or MRCP or FICM
- Echocardiography fellowship or equivalent qualification (or enrolment in progress at interview)
- ATLS, ALS
- Membership of NACCS
- General training in Intensive Care Medicine to specialist level or equivalent
- Experience of perioperative care delivery
- Experience of neuro critical care
- Experience of supervising resident doctors
- Involvement in audit, research, publications and presentations
- Evidence of team leadership skills appropriate to a consultant in a large, multi site teaching hospital
- Organisational skills for effective role management in a regional referral centre
- Commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Flexible problem solving approach
- Experience of routine clinical audit and understanding of audit systems such as TARN and ICNARC
- Knowledge of the NHS structure and clinical networks
- Management training and experience
- Experience in teaching medical, nursing undergraduates, postgraduates and multi disciplinary team members
- Willingness to conduct and supervise audit as a consultant
- Ability to actively participate in regional audit systems
