Job OverviewThis post is for a Consultant Medical Oncologist with an interest in Melanoma, NMS and OTIS, based in Brighton but with a clinic in Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath. Must be prepared to travel between sites.
The workload predominantly relates to outpatient clinical activity, with regular commitments to caring for general oncology inpatients, review of patients in the same-day emergency care unit, and participation in an out-of-hours oncology on-call rota.
In addition, the post will require clinical leadership, MDT attendance and active participation, medical student and registrar teaching, and offer research opportunities.
Main Duties of the Job- Clinical trials leadership and delivery
- Acute Oncology team leadership and clinical management
- Clinical admin generated from patients seen and liaison with other AHPs, and primary care
- Clinical Governance meetings
- Ward reviews when appropriate
- MBBS, FRCR or appropriate specialist qualification, or its recognised equivalent
- Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC or be eligible for registration within six months of the interview.
- If trained in the UK, must have a Certificate of Completion Training (CCT) in Oncology or be within six months of receiving it by the interview date.
- If trained outside the UK, must provide evidence that your qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT. (Equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
- Higher Degree
- Evidence of training in broad spectrum of oncology tumour sites
- Understanding of clinical risk management
- Breadth of experience in and outside specialty
- Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
- Understanding of NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
- Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended
- Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
- Recognised teaching qualification
- Evidence of participation in audit
- Research experience
- Publications
- Prizes and honours
- Appropriate progression of career to date
- Good communication skills both oral and written
