This is a joint post between East Kent University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (EKHUT) and Evelina Women and Children's Clinical Group, Guys and St Thomas' Hospitals Foundation Trust (GSTT). The Trusts are seeking a full-time (10 PA) Consultant to join two Women's Health departments - one at William Harvey Hospital and one at St Thomas' Hospital. Work on both sites will involve Fetal Medicine and High-risk Obstetrics.
The Clinical Director for Women's Services at Guys and St Thomas' is Professor Eugene Oteng-Ntim.
The Clinical Director at William Harvey Hospital is Miss Zoe Woodward.
The GSTT Obstetric Service is led by Dr Sheela Swamy and Mr Con Kelleher. The Maternity unit serves the local population (which is diverse with high levels of deprivation) as well as receiving referrals from all over the UK and overseas. It is also the hub for the South East London Maternal Medicine Network.
The WHH Obstetric service sees 3500 deliveries per year, and is one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with three acute hospitals and community sites serving a local population of around 700,000. We also provide specialist services for Kent and Medway.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder would undertake a regular labour ward day at GSTT (08.30-22.30 on site) as well as weekday and weekend obstetric on calls.
The other components of the role include a weekly antenatal clinic at both GSTT and WHH, as well as Fetal Medicine sessions across both Trusts.

Person Specification Professional Qualifications- Full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practise.
- Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within six months of the date of the Interview.
- Subspecialty training in Maternal-fetal medicine
- ATSM in Advanced Labour ward practice Or advanced antenatal care
- Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT.
- Advanced obstetric scanning skills, including fetal medicine diagnostic and screening procedures
- Skills and commitment to maternal medicine and high risk obstetrics
- Clinical leadership experience as an operational lead for a clinical service or area
- Clinical skills required to work as a consultant in Obstetrics and gynaecology in the UK
- Subspecialty training in Obstetric scanning and maternal medicine
- Additional clinical skills relevant to Obstetrics and Gynaecology, but outside of the specialty
- Understanding of principles of audit and quality improvement and its use to drive service improvement.
- Experience of service innovation and/or development.
- Experience of achieving clinical governance targets e.g. CNST.
- Experience of achieving quality targets e.g. CQIN.
- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff
- ATSM in Medical Education Postgraduate qualification in clinical/medical education
- Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate.
- Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority.
- Empathy, understanding, listening skills, patience and ability to work co-operatively with others.
- Able to change and adapt, respond to changing circumstances and to cope with setbacks or pressure.
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Knowledge of finance and budgets
- Experience of performance management, developing and motivating staff
