Consultant in Gynaecology with an interest in Menopause Care

The appointment is for a substantive 10 PA Consultant Gynaecologist and Specialist in Menopause care. The post is based at St Michael's Hospital, with a day each week at Weston General Hospital.

The appointee will be a menopause specialist, who has completed the RCOG ATSM/SITM in Menopause Care, or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience. This post comprises complex menopause and menopause oncology clinics - a strong grounding in menopause care after cancer is desirable. Additional SITMs/ATSMs complementary to the Menopause Service role and department would be welcomed such as reproductive medicine, vulval disease, hysteroscopy and / or oncology.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to participate as a full team member of the tertiary referral Menopause service, including contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings, teaching, audit and research in the service. The post holder will provide elective inpatient and outpatient care to patients referred with benign gynaecological conditions, including clinics and operating. The role will include general gynaecology clinics and hysteroscopy. There is no obstetrics in this job.

The post holder will be expected to participate in emergency "hot week" cover, and there is a non resident (1 in 14) on call covering gynaecology only.

Person Specification Qualifications & Training
  • Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview (does not apply to CESR applicants)
  • Completion (or close to) of Advanced Certificate in Menopause Care (BMS accredited) or RCOG SITM in Menopause Care
  • Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent
  • Complementary SITM such as reproductive medicine, hysteroscopy, vulval disease or oncology
Experience
  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Gynaecology
  • Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
  • Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust's service strategy
