Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking to appointConsultants in Emergency Medicineto join theUrgent & Emergency Care Directorate, working at Charing Cross Hospital.
These posts offer the opportunity to practise Emergency Medicine at scale within one of the UK's leadingAcademic Health Science Centres, delivering high-quality care to diverse patient populations in a Type 1 Emergency Department.
The role is predominantly clinical, providing senior clinical leadership and decision-making within busy emergency departments, while also offeringprotected non-clinical timeto support professional development.
Consultants are encouraged to develop interests aligned to service needs and personal career goals, including education, quality improvement, leadership, research, frailty, mental health, major trauma or same-day emergency care.

Posts may be based at a single site or include cross-site working by agreement, supported through annual team job planning. Main duties of the jobThe post holder will provideconsultant-level emergency careand leadership within the Emergency Department, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure safe, timely and compassionate care for patients.
Clinical responsibilities include:
- Delivering senior decision-making across the full range of emergency presentations
- Providing visible clinical leadership in resuscitation, majors, rapid assessment and SDEC areas
- Supporting patient flow, clinical prioritisation and risk management
In keeping with ourcollaborative and aspirational values, consultants are expected to play an active role in:
- Teaching, supervising and supporting junior doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team
- Contributing to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and patient safety activity
- Supporting service development, innovation and transformation within Emergency Medicine

Job responsibilitiesThe Consultant in Emergency Medicine will work as a senior clinical leader within the Emergency Department, contributing to high-quality patient care, team development and service improvement.
Key responsibilities include:

- Supporting and supervising junior doctors, fostering a positive learning culture

- Working collaboratively with nursing, managerial and specialty colleagues

Person Specification Qualifications- On GMC Specialist Register in Emergency Medicine
- Fellowship of the College of Emergency Medicine or equivalent higher degree in Emergency Medicine
- ATLS, APLS, ALS provider
- Completion of training programme in Emergency Medicine (or within three months at interview)
- Relevant experience in UK or Ireland for clinical leadership
- Able to demonstrate clinical skills in managing the full range of patient presentations as defined in the College of Emergency Medicine curriculum.
- Able to lead major trauma calls
- Understanding of the challenges of clinical leadership and managing a multiprofessional team within financial constraints
- Understanding of performance issues
- Experience of teaching and training
- Good teaching skills
- Experience of educational & clinical supervision
- Evidence of completion of audit project including implementation of recommendations
- Evidence to provide clinical leadership for audit programmes
- Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements
