This is a full time 10 PA Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Consultant post in CYPS to work with the Learning disability pathway, based in Monkwearmouth Hospital.
It will provide an exciting opportunity to be involved in further developing the service model. There will also be opportunity to be involved in leadership, research, teaching, audit, and SPA activities.
It is a rich service with strong established links with our Paediatric colleagues in the Acute Hospital; the generic CYPS team; the PLT (Psych liaison team); ICTS (Intensive community treatment service); EDICT (Eating disorders intensive community treatment team).
We are a teaching service with plenty of teaching opportunities. We have Psychiatry trainees from FT, GP trainees, Core Trainees, Higher trainee and International fellowship doctors as well as undergraduate Medical students from Newcastle and Sunderland Medical Schools.
The precise nature of the post will be discussed, jointly and mutually agreed with the candidate at the time of the appointment giving consideration to the service need, the candidate's interest and developmental needs.

Main duties of the jobThe role of the CAMHS LD psychiatrist will be to undertake psychiatric assessments and contribute to the management of young people who have an established learning disability, and those who may have such a disability.
The post holder will work within a team of 4.4 WTE Consultant Child Psychiatrists. In addition to this post, the service includes LD CYPS, Core Trainees, Higher Trainees, GP Trainee and Foundation Trainee. The team also has 4 specialty doctors and a rich MDT of nurses and psychologists.
- Collaborate with the wider multidisciplinary team to develop care plans and packages, and to deliver aspects of the care pathway, utilizing expertise in psychopharmacology and other psychosocial interventions.
- Conduct assessments of risk and make appropriate recommendations, working with the team and the wider social care system to manage risk to the young person and to others.
- Work within the clinical governance framework that exists within NTW.
- Contribute to service management and development alongside line managers and co workers.
- Participate in a daytime SoTyne CYPS duty rota covering emergencies and an out of hours on call rota (either the lifespan LD rota or the CYPS rota).

- MBBS (or equivalent)
- MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
- Included on GMC Specialist Register (General Psychiatry) or eligible for inclusion, or a trainee within six months of CCT
- Approved under Section12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
- Approved Clinician Status
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
- Has undergone training in educational supervision
- Has undergone training in appraisal
- Up to date knowledge in the field of Psychiatry
- Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation
- An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies
- Experience of LD multidisciplinary team working
- Wide clinical experience in general CYPS psychiatry in different clinical settings
- Experience of Clinical Audit
- Experience in multi agency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies
- Regularly take part in activities that maintain and develop the competence in LD CYPS client group
- Experience in service management or development
- High level of clinical skills in LD CYPS
- Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Proven competence in diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
- Excellent teaching skills
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a time efficient manner
- Established record of clinical leadership
- Established ability as a clinical teacher
- Training in specific and relevant treatment skills e.g. a brief form of psychological therapy
- Able to sustain self and support others
- Trustworthiness
- Able to meet the mobility requirements of the post
- Maturity, openness and flexibility

£113,565 to £150,569 a year pro rata for part time
