The appointment is for a substantive 10 PA Consultant Gynaecologist and Specialist in Endometriosis. The post is based at St Michael's Hospital.
The appointee will be an endometriosis specialist, who has completed the RCOG ATSM/SITM in Advanced Laparoscopy for the Excision of Benign Disease/Endometriosis Care, or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience. Additional ATSMs complementary to the existing department would be welcomed.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate as a full team-member of the tertiary referral BSGE accredited Endometriosis Centre, including contributing to audit and research in the service. The post-holder will provide elective inpatient and outpatient care to patients referred with benign gynaecological conditions, including clinics and operating - including regular robotic operating lists. The role will include general gynaecology clinics. There is no obstetrics in this job.
The post holder will be expected to participate in emergency 'hot week' cover, and there is a non-resident (1 in 15) on call covering gynaecology only.

Main duties of the jobThe successful candidate will be expected to provide inpatient and outpatient care to patients referred with suspected or proven endometriosis and pelvic pain, as well as other benign gynaecological conditions. This will include all treatments for endometriosis including surgical resection of the most severe disease. The job includes robotic operating and specialist endometriosis ultrasound scanning, and experience of these is desirable, but if a successful candidate did not already have these skills, they could be supported to develop them in post. In addition, the successful candidate will also provide acute and elective gynaecological care to patients attending St Michael's Hospital in conjunction with the current consultants. He / she should have expertise at consultant level in general gynaecological surgery covering both elective and emergency procedures.

Person Specification Qualifications & Training- Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or
- Eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview
- Completion (or close to) of advanced laparoscopy for excision of benign disease ATSM or demonstrable equivalent training and experience
- Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent
- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Gynaecology
- Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
- Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust's service strategy
- Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty
- Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty
- Broad range of IT skills
- Specialist/advanced endometriosis ultrasound experience
- Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
- Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation
- Positive approach to evidence based practice
- Participation in continuing professional development (CPD) scheme and, where relevant, evidence of participation
