The University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB) is recruiting a Consultant Geriatrician to join our Department for Medicine of the Elderly (DME). Part time applications may be considered to achieve our required establishment.
Main duties of the jobThe Derby-based Parkinson's Team was awarded a National Parkinson Foundation Centre of Excellence status by the NPF in 2011 and has been accredited until 2026. Our nationally recognised multidisciplinary movement disorder clinic is led by Dr Skelly, and we are developing the service at Burton.
The Burton team offers specialist clinics in falls, fracture prevention, syncope and orthogeriatrics. The Department's Academic Representative is Dr Jemima Collins, who enhances research participation.
Job responsibilitiesThe Department is active in teaching medical students and postgraduate trainees. We supervise junior colleagues, support their goal achievement and guide them through specialist training. We also develop a research programme, conduct regular audits and establish KPIs. Our aim is to improve care for frail older patients.
Person Specification - Qualifications- Full GMC Registration with licence to practice.
- MBBS/MBChB and possession of MRCP.
- GMC Specialist Register for Medicine for the Elderly, or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview.
- Postgraduate thesis.
- 5 years supervised training in a relevant SpR programme with high clinical skill in Medicine for the Elderly.
- Comprehensive technical competence in Medicine for the Elderly.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and share clinical responsibilities.
- Experience and commitment to teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.
- Publications in peer reviewed journals.
- Experience of audit management.
