Job Description

Applications are invited for a permanent post of Consultant Electrophysiologist at the Bristol Heart Institute. We are looking for an experienced and outstanding individual to join our existing team.

Main duties of the job This post will offer excellent clinical, teaching, governance and research facilities with possibilities to contribute and/or lead to develop our electrophysiology service to the highest level.

Applicants should be on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register or be within 6 months of their CCT date at interview.

Working for our organisation UHBW is working in partnership with NBT to form a Hospital Group, with the two major NHS organisations having a shared ambition: to deliver seamless, high-quality, equitable and sustainable care for every person across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. With a combined workforce of 28,000 and a budget of over £2.1 billion, we are coming together as a Hospital Group to deliver our Joint Clinical Strategy which will help tackle health inequalities, improve outcomes, and deliver better value for patients, staff, and the public.

In Spring 2025, a Group Cardiac Service has formed between NBT and UHBW, operating as a joined-up service delivered across two Trusts. Cardiac Services will be led by a single leadership team, with UHBW acting as the lead organisation, and site-based leadership in place to support day-to-day operations on all sites

Person specification Qualifications & Training
  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following:
  • a. Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview)
  • b. Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
  • Experience in advanced arrhythmia management
  • Experienced in implantation and follow up of complex cardiac devices
Experience
  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in Cardiology
  • Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
  • Extensive training in all aspects of catheter ablation
  • Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust's service strategy
  • Fellowship / research related to heart failure and/or devices.
Clinical Knowledge and Skills
  • Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant specialty
  • Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty
Clinical Governance and Audit
  • Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation
  • Positive approach to evidence-based practice
  • Participation in continuing professional development (CPD) scheme and, where relevant, evidence of participation
Research
  • Knowledge of the principles involved in research
  • Evidence of involvement in research
  • Evidence of peer review research papers
  • Ability to increase the academic profile of the department.
Teaching and Training
  • Experience of teaching medical students.
  • Experience of supervising trainees.
  • Knowledge of teaching to a multidisciplinary team
