An exciting new Consultant opportunity to join the Child Health Team in Cornwall as Named Doctor for Children in Care and work clinically as Community Paediatrician.
We are looking for an enthusiastic doctor who will be a proactive addition to our workforce, and who is interested in taking the service forward, with our close links with our hospital colleague's and medical school.
We need a Consultant Community Paediatrician who can work collaboratively within RCHT and multi-disciplinary partners across of the county.
The Royal Cornwall Hospitals' NHS Trust (RCHT) is part of the Cornwall Healthcare Community, working in partnership with other local trusts to deliver high quality healthcare services across the county. The Trust has close links to medical specialist services in the Southwest Peninsula and beyond. Serving a widespread local population, as well as thousands of visitors to Cornwall each year, poses a number of unique healthcare challenges. The Trust delivers acute medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 400,000 and has a higher proportion of elderly people than the national average. The population more than doubles during the busy holiday periods. RCHT comprises three main hospitals: The Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro; West Cornwall Hospital, Penzance, and St. Michaels in Hayle. Outpatient and other services are a member of corporate support services are located away from the main hospital sites.
Main duties of the jobThis postholder will hold the statutory role of Named Doctor for Children in Care (Looked After Children) on behalf of RCHT and will also work clinically within the Community Paediatric Team.
Named Doctors have a key role in promoting good professional practice within their organisation, providing advice and expertise for fellow professionals, and ensuring robust arrangements are in place, working in partnership with the Named Nurse for Safeguarding and Associate Director Safeguarding & Statutory Services.
Working as part of an established multidisciplinary team, the post holder will undertake the specialist medical assessment, investigation and clinical management of the children with neurodevelopmental problems through designated clinics. They will also contribute to the multidisciplinary assessment process.
All consultants take part in the daytime non-CSA child protection rota both directly and in a supervisory role.

- Full GMC registration with a Licence to Practice
- Completed GRID training in Community Child Health and or Paediatric Neurodisability. Previous Named or Designated Children in Care or Safeguarding roles. Higher degree or additional qualification (e.g. MD, MSc.
- GMC Specialist Registration
- Clinical experience of assessing and examining children and young people as appropriate to the role to include Children in Care.
- Experience working in NHS.
