Main duties of the jobThe post-holder shall be expected to deliver emergency general surgery and elective coloproctology. The successful candidate/candidates will also be encouraged to develop their skills in one or more of the specialist techniques/services described above and this will be actively supported.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a service which is at the forefront of providing a modern colorectal and emergency surgery service. Nottingham Colorectal Service has one of the busiest emergency and colorectal cancer workloads in the UK. It is also a major tertiary referral centre for the wider East Midlands. We have established services in advanced laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery, intestinal failure, anal cancer, retroperitoneal sarcoma, faecal incontinence, TEO/TEMS, SILS, locally advanced and recurrent colorectal cancer and an active Academic Department (University of Nottingham).
Job responsibilitiesThe Job Plan is annualised to 11 PA's. This means that the individual appointed will be expected to deliver 8.5 sessions of DCC per week. The post-holder will have regular elective operating sessions, clinics and the opportunity for endoscopy lists should it fit with the post-holder's skillset. They will be across all of our sites (Queens Medical Centre, City Hospital and Treatment Centre). These will sit within the Colorectal Surgery specialty, overseen by the Head of Colorectal. Some of these commitments will be out of workday hours e.g. evenings and weekends.
The Unit will actively support the development of subspecialist interests in line with the vision for colorectal surgery at NUH and provision for this will be made via individualised training opportunities.
Person Specification Professional Registration- Full registration with the GMC
- Eligible to be included on the Specialist Register OR Within 6 months of achieving CCT at the time of interview
- MBBS; FRCS(Gen.Surg) or equivalent
- Relevant General Surgical and colorectal emergency and elective operative experience including laparoscopic training
- Post CCT Fellowship in colorectal surgery
- Provisional JAG accreditation
- Evidence of participation in Clinical audit
- Able to teach and support junior staff effectively
- Original research publications
- Experience and enthusiasm for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
