Consultant Clinical Psychologist. Deputy Head of BCUHB Psychology and Psychological Services in Physical Health and Consultant Clinical Psychologist in Inherited Metabolic Disorders
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and forward-thinking Clinical Psychologist to take on a most senior leadership role as Deputy Head of the BCUHB Psychology and Psychological Services for Physical Health. This is an important role supporting the strategic, operational and professional leadership of a growing psychology workforce delivering high quality psychological care across physical health settings in BCUHB. The postholder will work closely with the Head of Specialty to shape service development and strategic planning, strengthen clinical governance, and provide clinical supervision and line management to colleagues within the department.
Main duties of the jobIn addition to providing psychological leadership across the department, the post holder will join the BCUHB Inherited Metabolic Disease Team based at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, which is part of the All Wales Inherited Metabolic Disease Service. Established in 2016, this is a Tertiary Service, funded by NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee. Working closely with the Metabolic Consultants, Specialist Nurses and the wider MDT, the successful candidate will have responsibility to develop and lead a highly specialist, integrated clinical psychology service to support patients in North Wales with these rare conditions. The postholder will be will also be encouraged to undertake research and teaching in this field.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification Qualifications and/or Knowledge- Good Honours degree in Psychology. Eligibility for BPS Chartered status.
- Registration with HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist
- Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS
- Clinical supervision training for supervising Doctoral trainees
- Attendance at formal management and health leadership training programmes
- Doctoral level advanced specialist knowledge of clinical psychology theory and practice, psychological therapies and their application, neuropsychological and psychometric assessment and interpretation, research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practised within clinical psychology
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development as recommended by the BPS and HCPC
- Advanced training in research design and methodology
- Record of publications in peer reviewed or academic or professional journals and/or books
- Appropriate experience of working as a qualified Clinical Psychologist, including substantial supervised post-qualification expertise and experience within the Health Clinical Psychology field
- Sufficient experience to demonstrate a level of competence to satisfy the assessment requirements of up to two BPS/DoH National Assessors in Clinical Psychology for entrance into Consultant Grade
- Additional specialist supervised training, research or study, specialist courses and clinical supervision in the Health Clinical Psychology
- Ability to use highest level of interpersonal and communication skills, requiring empathy and reassurance, to convey and receive highly complex/sensitive information effectively in a highly emotive atmosphere, and ability to overcome psychological resistance to potentially threatening information, whilst maintaining high degree of professionalism at all times
- Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary settings
- Ability to prepare and present clinical and academic material for lecturing/training purposes
- Ability to make clinical and service-related judgements involving highly complex facts requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of several options
- Ability to plan and organise a broad range of complex clinical or service-related activities and programmes, some of which may be long-term
- Ability to manage Clinical Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists, and provide leadership within clinical service area Clinical Psychology Service
- Ability to speak Welsh
- Able to demonstrate a range of qualities essential to the role.
